Who We Are

About Us

Surrey Minds Together, formerly Dorking Minds is a community-led mental health initiative dedicated to creating a stronger, more connected Surrey Hills. Our mission is to educate, inform, and inspire locals to break the stigma surrounding mental health. By fostering open conversations and providing supportive spaces, we aim to empower individuals and strengthen our community.

We believe that mental well-being is a journey best traveled together. Whether through our initiatives like ‘Coffee for Companionship’ or wellness workshops, Surrey Minds Together is here to ensure no one feels alone in their struggles.

Why We Do What We Do

Mental health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being, yet it is often overlooked or misunderstood. In the Surrey Hills, mental health challenges are on the rise, with many individuals struggling in silence. Whether it’s the isolation felt by those living alone, the pressure of modern life, or the stigma surrounding mental health, these challenges affect us all.

Did you know that 18% of Surrey residents admitted to feeling lonely all the time, with 80% reporting occasional loneliness? The impact of mental health issues is not just individual—it affects our families, our communities, and our society as a whole.

At Surrey Minds Together, we believe that by educating the community, fostering open dialogue, and creating supportive spaces, we can break the stigma and provide the tools needed for better mental well-being. Together, we can build a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, feel supported, and know that they are never alone.

Who started it all

Dorking Minds was set up in 2017 with a group of individuals who when they met up for a social evening, every one of them had experienced someone in mental health distress. The team then decided to do something to expand the local support in Dorking, offering subsidised Mental Health First Aid Training leading onto educational Monthly Monday talks and Mindfest.

Dorking Minds has been on a journey of tragedy with the devastating loss of Jeff Zie and Marina Roberts, who without their work and commitment, Surrey Minds Together wouldn’t be where it is today.
